Traditional Carnival

The “Traditional Carnival” came into being on the initiative of the local Palmeros resident on the islands, in homage to the famous Carnival de los Indianos (emigrants who made their fortune in America before returning home) which La Palma commemorates every year. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, this event takes place in the setting of the Guiniguada ravine, between the historic Vegueta and Triana quarters, and it brings together a great crowd of people dressed in white to evoke the return of the Canarians who emigrated to the Americas, with a huge cloud of talcum powder.

This isn’t actually one of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival celebrations proper, although the invitation to join in is taken up by a large number of people.
