Widows Race
One of the most entertaining and eagerly awaited scenes of the Carnival is that of the grief-stricken widows, who with tears, laughter and a great deal of aplomb bid farewell to Don Carnal in the traditional burning of the sardine. But before bidding a final farewell, it’s time to cover 3.5 kilometres of pure fun in the Widows Race, a light-hearted, unhurried and non-competitive event.
The 3.5 km race will be held on a course with a common start and finish line, passing through all the activity points of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival. There will be a refreshment area at the finish line.
With the race’s common start and finish line in Santa Catalina Park, it will be closed to traffic, except for organiser and authorised vehicles. The maximum time to cover the 3.5 km distance will be 45 minutes.
Circuit: Santa Catalina in front of the Elder Museum, passing through the streets Luis Morote – Eduardo Benot – Poeta Agustín Millares – Pérez Muñoz – Juan Rejón – Benartemi – Plaza Ingeniero Manuel Becerra and return in reverse.
Registration up until 13 March, at 2:00 pm at https://lpacarnaval.com/en/events/widows-race/
Registration fee: €5, which includes a commemorative t-shirt.
Race numbers will be issued on the day of the race in the starting area from 10 am up to 30 minutes before the start. To collect your race number, you must present proof of identity and/or proof of registration (on mobile or paper).
