One of the most entertaining and eagerly awaited scenes of the Carnival is that of the grief-stricken widows, who with tears, laughter and a great deal of aplomb bid farewell to Don Carnal in the traditional burning of the sardine. But before bidding a final farewell, it’s time to cover 3.5 kilometres of pure fun in the Widows Race, a light-hearted, unhurried and non-competitive event.

It doesn’t matter whether you run, walk or strut down the route as if it’s a runway, or what your costume is. You can come dressed as a classic widow, a clown, a pirate, an astronaut or anything you like. What’s important is soaking up the Carnival atmosphere and enjoying the experience. Join us in celebrating a lively, joyful and fun farewell to the Carnival king, Don Carnal!
