Cross-Dresser Night
Decades ago, they took to the streets of the Carnival as a space where protest and transgression met. A context that allowed for ambiguity and play without prejudice or censorship. The drag queens are the seed of what, with the passage of time, made the Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and its Drag Queen Gala an example of a festival of tolerance and respect. Virtues for which this gala has achieved such a significant distinction as the Pluma Award, granted by the State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans, Bisexuals, Intersex and more. These awards recognise each year the work of people, organisations and initiatives that have distinguished themselves in the defence of the rights of LGBTI+ people and the visibility of the community.
