Los Guanches Picapiedra

Founded in:
1977
City:
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Vegueta)

Los Guanches Picapiedra are part of the Carnival's history. As a Murga, they set their own style and had great success with some of their songs, which people still hum today. They first performed at the Carnival in 1978. Their members remember that at that time the lyrics had to pass the censorship of the government.

In 1983 the Carnival Board awarded them the title of Afilarmónica after they had won the First Prize in 1978, 1979, 1981 and 1982.
